Often Imitated. Never Duplicated

In case you didn’t know, there is this little pink egg-shaped sponge that has taken the beauty world by storm. It’s called the Beauty Blender and it is the secret to a flawless foundation application. Don’t be fooled by impostors. There is no substitute.

We finally tried this little pink sponge and can agree with the rest of the lovers; it’s magic. But what exactly is it and what does it do? It’s a non-disposable, latex-free makeup applicator sponge. It’s ergonomic design makes applying liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer effortless.

Basically you saturate the sponge with water and squeeze out the excess. Then gently towel dry it (I just take a dry hand towel and roll the sponge around). Dip the rounded bottom of the sponge into your foundation and ‘bounce’ it on your face. Bounce? Yes, bounce. It’s like stippling with a sponge. Remember art class? Me neither. But this method really ensures your makeup is totally blended, streak-free and flawless. You can use the pointy end to get around your eyes and nose. Seriously, the difference is unbelievable.

I have tried some that look like the Beauty Blender but they just don’t work like the real deal. So how much is this little sponge? It’s not cheap. Around $20 for one. Sephora sells it in a 2-pack for $25. You may be saying ‘Twenty bucks for a sponge?!?‘. Remember that it’s non-disposable. I have paid twice that for a foundation brush that I have come to dislike very much. Had I just pulled the trigger on the Beauty Blender before, I would have saved money on all the other brushes I have tried and hated.

Since its reusable, you need to clean it after each use. There is a special Beauty Blender cleanser but I have found that baby shampoo works brilliantly.

Beauty Blender

Glamglow.  Coming off the heels of the Golden Globes, you may think it was the catchphrase or a hashtag from the evening.  It is actually a facial mask.  Have you heard of this brand?  Two Chemists in LA with celebrity friends used their free time to come up with a mask that made their friends red carpet ready.  Little jars of this volcanic mud mask were secretly being passed through the hands of Hollywood’s elite until now (Jennifer Aniston and Miley Cyrus are said to be fans).  I love that their story is so, well, Hollywood!! So it was time for me to get dirty and see what all the buzz was about….

Subway Rant..

Calling all ladies out there- I totally understand that after a long night or day working when you collapse into that subway bench you just want to relax and have a moment. That does not excuse the fact that you cannot sit with your legs wide open if you’re wearing a skirt or dress. Everyone on the opposite bench can see directly up it. I cannot even begin to mention how many times I’ve seen this phenomenon. I’m not talking about legs slightly apart, what i’m talking about is ladies sitting with their legs so wide open a car could fit in there.

The moral of this story is sit with your legs together. You never know who could be looking and/or taking photos.

Going Somewhere?

When I travel I look for easy pieces that look chic for all occasions. This American Apparel dress fits the bill perfectly. You can dress it down with a chunky cable knit sweater and espadrilles or up as Allison has done with simple pointed red shoes.
